Academic Counselor
Genealogy Enthusiast
Sexual Assault Advocate
Dr. Deborah Kittrell-Mikell is a Baltimore, Maryland native who (when she
was growing up), spent many summers with the Kittrell’s in North Carolina.
Currently she’s employed with the Savannah Chatham County Public School
System for the School of Liberal Studies. Formerly she served as the Director of
Academic Advising at East Georgia State College and Coordinator of Academic
Advising for Georgia Southern University. She has been in the field of Education
for over 30 years but has always had an interest in listening to her elders talk
about how they survived hard times when they were growing up. These stories
inspired her to pursue genealogical research for the Kittrell family. She
completed her doctoral degree in 2017 at Georgia Southern University in
Educational Leadership. She is proficient in academic counseling and is a strong
supporter of pursuing a global education. She has taken classes in Segovia Spain,
attended workshops in Canada, has engaged educators in conversation about
student success at Malmö University in Malmö, Sweden, and conducted
presentations at the University of Sheffield in the United Kingdom, and Zayed
University in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. She is an active member of the North
Carolina Genealogical Society (NCGS). She continues to trace her ancestral
history using official and unofficial historical records.
